Parted Magic

Parted Magic è una piccola distribuzione Linux live ( CD/USB/PXE) con lo scopo elementare di partizionare gli hard disk. Anche se GParted e Parted sono i programmi principali, il CD/USB offre anche altre applicazioni, come Partition Image, TestDisk, fdisk, sfdisk, dd, ddrescue, ecc.

This version of Parted Magic is dedicated to my friend of 14 years. Furrgie was diagnosed with liver cancer in October. For the most part she seemed happy and healthy until February 12th. She was no longer able to eat and drink. On the 14th we made the decision to end her suffering. I truly miss my friend.

Notable changes for this release: Linux 5.11.2 with NVIDIA driver version 460.56. Forum member ven42 found a program buried on the internet called “Fred”. This is a perfect replacement for the old “pcregedit”. For what ever reason some newer computers cannot load a boot image larger than 250MB. Users would get a message “error: out of memory”. This was fixed by making the initramfs smaller. Duh. There was another memory error “Not enough memory to load specified image”. I’ve seen this on and off with computers for the past 10 years. I had a boot menu entry to fix this by telling the computer how much memory to use. Most people overlooked it or didn’t see it. Over the past month I just added mem=32G to all of the boot entries and so far it hasn’t caused a problem. Hopefully the memory errors are put to bed once and for all.

Programs added: x11vnc, libhivex, fred-reports, fred, drivenuke, xfce4-sensors-plugin, psensor, node, libmicrohttpd, and gtop.
