CRUX è una distribuzione Linux leggera orientata agli utenti esperti. Lo scopo primario della distribuzione e di “mantenere la semplicità”, pertanto utilizza pacchetti basati su tar.gz, script di init di tipo BSD e pochi selezionati pacchetti. Lo scopo secondario è di utilizzare le nuove caratteristiche e librerie di Linux.
Dopo ben 11 anni dalla versione per i686, adesso CRUX è solo per architettura x86-64

Introduction
This page discusses the relevant changes introduced in CRUX 3.6. Everybody upgrading from the previous release is advised to carefully read the following notes.
Toolchain updates
CRUX 3.6 comes with a multilib toolchain which includes glibc 2.32, gcc 10.2.0 and binutils 2.35.1

CRUX 3.6 ships with Xorg 7.7 and xorg-server 1.20.9
Image
The ISO image is processed with isohybrid and is suitable for burning on a CD and putting on a USB drive. UEFI support is available during installation with dosfstools, efibootmgr, and grub2-efi/syslinux available during installation.
Because all bootloaders are in our opt collection now, lilo is no longer installed as a core port by default. To give the possibility to select a bootloader we have added a new menu to setup.
Incompatible changes
Important libraries have been updated to new major versions which are not ABI compatible with the old versions. We strongly advise against manually updating to CRUX 3.6 via ports, since these changes will temporarily break the system. Please note that there may still be packages that need updating that are not included on the ISO. These packages will need to be updated/rebuilt manually. Use prt-get sysup and revdep (from opt/prt-utils).
Important notes
- glibc depends at buildtime on python3 now. Python3 and its dependencies have been moved from the opt collection to core.
- glibc removed rpc and nsl stuff, we’ve added the ports libnsl and rpcsvc-proto therefore.
- we renamed openrdate to rdate, jdk to jdk8-bin and mesa3d to mesa.
- to get more attention the alias file for prt-get has been moved to /etc.
